PROCEDURE
1. Using mortar and pestle, grind dry pigment to a fine powder.
Doing this in small batches works best
2. Equal parts dry pigment and powdered gum arabic (note: this does not have to be an exact measure as there are many variables with different pigments and types/brands of gum arabic
3. Dry mix powdered substances to combine.
4. Add small amounts of Demineralised Water with a dropper to combine to a consistency between snot (sorry I know that that sounds gross) and toothpaste
5. Mull the mixture to combine adding water as needed. Again this is easier done in smaller batches.
This is done to further crush any powder granules that were missed in step 1 using a mortar and pestle.
This step is very much worth doing so that you don't have any gritty bits left in your paint, which is unpleasant to paint with and not visually pleasing
I used a glass muller with a textured glass base using a figure-8 grinding technique
6.Decant prepared paint into shells.
Of course modern containers can also be used
7. Let dry
8.. Rehydrate with water to use.
NOTE: you do NOT paint with the prepared paint as it comes from the muller at a toothpaste consistency as this is too thick.
It will not paint well, has poor adherence and will very often chip off easily
8. The paint should be rehydrated with water to a runny cream/melted icecream consistency
