DIFFERENT COLOURED VERDIGRIS
DIFFERENT COLOURED
VERDIGRIS

I decided to harvest some verdigris from baths that I had started on 20.3.20
I was very surprised to see two distinctly different colours. One more light turquoise blue and the other a dark green
Both baths used the exact same copper and vinegar so I am perplexed why there is a difference.
My only conclusion is that perhaps it was because of the different sized containers which held different amounts of vinegar.
I wonder if this has caused differing levels of the gases in the containers to be emitted?
Which perhaps changed something chemically in the reaction?
I will wait to see what the differences in colour are once they have dried.
This is intriguing.
I am intending to do another verdigris experiment using Organic Preservative Free Wine (which I believe would be closer to period wines) compared to hand made Apple Cider Vinegar and the same vinegar (FEHLBERHS Double Strength white vinegar), that I used in this experiment, to see if there is any difference.
I will make sure the containers and the amount of liquid are the same.
