After a lot of research, reading many historical recipes online and in different books on medieval treatise and watching utube "how to's", facebook enquiries to the Period Pigment Pallette (and other pages) and PM conversations, I decided to use Ian the Greens recipe from his blog
Ian has won many A&S competitions for his ink and is extremely knowledgeable.
I decided on an additional step of soaking the oak galls as I wanted to get the most tannin from the galls as possible.
I dont know the quality of the ones I had and was worried about the possibility of having inferior galls which would produce less tannin (the main necessary ingredient for the ink)
I also halved the recipe as I had limited quantities of oak galls and I would like to try different recipes.
I broke up the oak galls, weighed them out and now I have them soaking in the demineralised water.
Im not sure how long I will leave them to soak. I think I remember reading 12days but I will have to check.

I also remember reading that heat helps the process so maybe I should put them out in the sun?
More research tonight.....
